Mr WALLACE Carl (Four people, October 2^nd - 13^th, Northern Vietnam and Laos, Motorbiking)

I'm just back from a 11-day trip to Laos and Vietnam with Voyage Vietnam. We took Minsks from Hanoi by train to Lao Cai then rode to Sa Pa, Lai Chau, Son La, Moc Chau, Mai Chau, crossed the border at Na Meo and rode on to Veng Xai, Sam Nua and through to Luang Prabang.

On the way back we visited the Plain of Jars at Phonsavant and crossed back into Vietnam at Na Can. I know that Voyage Vietnam is keen to explore further into Northern Laos (around Houei Sai and Luang Nantha) where the riding, scenery and minority cultures should be fantastic (especially Xieng Kok to Muang Sing).

The border corssings into Thailand and Burma present problems of import tariffs and trade regulations with whichever bikes we ride.

I enjoy the 'go anywhere, easily repairable' Minsks; on this last trip my bike broke a piston ring, was easily repaired overnight by a small-town mechanic (new piston and rings installed for US $8). We also did a roadside head gasket replacement on one of the bikes. The guide/mechanics from Voyage Vietnam have complete confidence to keep the Minsks on the road.
